Eastern Regional Branch

It was established at Durgapur in 20-21 January, 2009, under the clause 5.13.1 of rule 5.13 of the Rules & Regulations of the Society. At present, the branch has more than 50 active Fellows, Corporate Members, Life Members, and Associate Life Members. Etc. This branch is quite active and working excellently. It has Elected Executive Committee (EC) and the members of EC elected as per the by laws of the society. The EC meets regularly and sends the reports of their activities to MSI, New Delhi for information. The branch activities are summarized below:

1. National Workshop on Quality Assurance Through Measurement Science and launching of MSI(ERC) on 20-21, 2009 at Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur, West Bengal. The following topics were discussed:
   1. Overview of the electrical and electronic standards
   2. Mass  and Temperature standards
   3. Dimension Standards
   4. Overview of activities at CMERI
   5. MSI and its activity
   6. Pressure and Vacuum Standards
   7. Introduction to the uncertainty in measurement
   8. About NABL & its ability.

more than 100 participants from different organizations attended the workshop.

2. Workshop on Metrology, Quality Assurance, Conformity Assessment and Proficiency testing, 20th and 21st November, 2009 at National Test House, Salt Lake, Kolkata. The topics covered:
   1. General Metrology
   2. Evaluation of Uncertainty in Measurements
   3. Realization of Unit of Mass, Length and Temperature
   4. Mass Measurement and Weighing Instrument
   5. Density and Volume Measurement
   6. Temperature Metrology and International
   7. NABL Activities

more than 120 participants from different organizations attended the workshop.

3. First Annual General Body Meeting was held on 22nd June, 2010 at Electro Meter Corporation, P-5 CIT Road, Kolkata – 700014.
4. Executive Committee meeting on 20th September, 2010.
5. Director, CMERI has very kindly permitted to retain the office of MSI(ER) at their campus from October, 2010.
